The Detroit Red Wings should inquire about Vegas forward Reilly Smith.

A veteran forward to consider checking on is forward Reilly Smith. Maybe it’s the Miami RedHawk in me that feels like he would be an excellent addition to the team’s lineup, but acquiring Smith would provide a boost to the team’s top-six.

Like Domi, he’s a bit more expensive. Smith has a $5 million cap hit but becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. Another drawback is that he is on the wrong side of 30 years old, being 30, and getting older.

He still produces well and is one of the Vegas Golden Knights’ better producers in their offense. But with Jack Eichel getting healthy, it seems that they will need to find themselves some cap room, which may lead to them shopping Smith.

The former Miami RedHawks forward has played in 11 NHL seasons, spending the last five with the Golden Knights after being traded there during the expansion draft and trade period. Smith has played in 46 games for the Golden Knights this season, where he has 13 goals and 19 assists with 32 total points on the season.

It’s hard to see a world where Smith’s addition would not add some offense in for the team moving forward. It may not be the best option out there, but Smith is certainly worth considering trading for.
