The Detroit Lions may be in the offseason and looking ahead to the future. But the 2024 calendar year might require a little bit more planning based on some recent news about the 2024 NFL Draft.

Kyle Meinke published a piece for MLive detailing that the Detroit Lions may wind up being the host of the 2024 NFL Draft. The league has it down to three cities, Detroit, Green Bay, and Washington being the three remaining candidates.

While the Detroit Lions have never played host to an amateur player draft, the team is hoping that it can bring the NFL’s 2024 draft to the city. Meinke’s piece on MLive notes that a decision should come following the owner’s meetings.

The Lions probably wish that they could play host in 2022, with the second overall pick, hopeful they can scoop up local-talent Aidan Hutchinson from the University of Michigan football program. It will be the Raiders who play hosts out in Las Vegas for this year’s draft.

Detroit Lions could bring 2024 NFL Draft to downtown Detroit.

The 2023 NFL Draft is already slated to take place in Kansas City, but 2024 is up for grabs. There seems to be some optimism that the Lions may be deemed worthy of being the host between the three finalists.

There’s certainly an argument to be made as to why Detroit could play host. It’s easy to see that the downtown area has started to grow and would allow multiple venues for draft events to take place.

It seems like the Lions do have a real shot to be considered, but time will tell. Until then, the Lions will keep their focus on this year and the job they have to do to execute their picks well in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.

There’s plenty to be excited about the direction of the Lions organization and how things have changed for the better. Hosting a draft might really re-invigorate this fanbase that keeps supporting this team year after year, no matter the result.
