Carving out the perfect first three picks for the Detroit Lions
By Bob Heyrman
In a perfect world, the Detroit Lions select Nakobe Dean with the no. 32 overall pick.
Nakobe Dean is a bit undersized at just 5’11 and 225-pounds but seemed to sprint faster on tape than the 4.74 40-yard time he posted at his Pro Day.
Dean led a stellar Bulldogs defense in 2021-22, finishing the historic season with a National Championship over Alabama. Georgia allowed just 10.2 points per game last season, which ranked tops in the country. Dean finished with a team-best 10.5 tackles for loss and was second on the team with 72 tackles.
Dean also finished the year with six sacks, tied with Travon Walker for second on the club, just a mere half-sack behind Robert Beal. Dean may appear to be a bit undersized but plays bigger than his frame and possesses the lateral quickness and agility to defend at an elite level against the more modern-day NFL offenses.
If he’s still available when Detroit is on the clock at the end of the night Thursday, Holmes needs to rush the card to commissioner Roger Goodell with confidence.
