The Detroit Red Wings are without a coach at this time. After the team opted to move away from former head coach Jeff Blashill, they have to now fill this vacancy. The Red Wings are not at a point where they have things narrowed down, but more possibilities are popping up.

For the Detroit Red Wings, finding the right coach will be a crucial piece of this offseason. Another stopgap coach could be detrimental for things moving forward with the rebuild, especially as the team tries to start being competitive and contend for the postseason.

One of the names that the Red Wings need to consider is Pete DeBoer. He was recently added to the pool of candidates after the Vegas Golden Knights opted to fire DeBoer. He missed the postseason for his first season with the Knights and first season as a coach since the 2014-15 season.

DeBoer has been a coach for 14 seasons in the National Hockey League, and after the Golden Knights relieved him of his duties, the Red Wings need to add him into the mix for potential new hires. He’s got the potential to be a quality fit.

The Detroit Red Wings need to pursue Pete DeBoer.

DeBoer is coming off of a 43-31-8 season with the Golden Knights. He led them to first-place finishes in each of the last three seasons after coming over from the San Jose Sharks organization, where he had been for over four years.

The team needs a bench boss, and someone who already has ties to the Detroit/Michigan hockey scene; getting him to come back to his roots is not an impossible suggestion. He had plenty of success with the Golden Knights and could rally the troops with the Red Wings, all for the best.

If the Red Wings wanted to poach a coach from a contender, grabbing DeBoer might be the best option. Vegas has been a contender for some time now, and DeBoer knows the league well, as well as the postseason.

Bringing in a coach like DeBoer will benefit the Red Wings’ rebuild as they try to slam the door on that and open the window to compete. With a lot of positives looking ahead from the 2021-22 season, the Red Wings need to find the coach who can lead them the best.
