The Detroit Lions are starting to piece together their roster for the 2022 season. While the team’s run game was an area of concern, injuries did not help this situation. Injuries have been a problem for some time now, but there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

The Detroit Lions drafted running back D’Andre Swift in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Swift was a product of Georgia’s running back group that has produced some notable names like Nick Chubb and Todd Gurley in recent memory.

Swift was expected to impact the Lions’ offense immediately, and injuries kept that from happening right off the bat. But, after two seasons hindered by injury, Swift is aiming to stay healthy in 2022.

Not only is he is looking to remain healthy, but he’s also looking to play a big role in the team’s new offense, which has been re-loaded with some offseason moves and draftees. Swift has shown glimpses of the outstanding player he can be; he just needs to stay healthy and show it.

Detroit Lions running back D’Andre Swift is aiming for a big 2022 season.

After 2022, it seems that Swift is going to be a significant asset to the Lions’ offense if he can remain healthy and be available week-in and week-out. He did log 13 games in 2021 amid his injury troubles but did miss four of the Lions contests.

In 2021, Swift picked up 151 rushes which helped him accumulate 617 yards with five touchdowns. On top of that, Swift showed his face in the passing game as well, picking up 62 receptions for 452 receiving yards with two more scores to his credit for the Lions.

It was a strong performance in 2021 from Swift; the important thing will be him doing it over an entire season. The Lions brought back Craig “Netflix” Reynolds, who will also play a valuable role in the Lions’ run game.

Veteran Jamaal Williams is back and ready to start winning football games. With a core that has the chance to produce in this offense, there’s got to be some excitement around what this group can do.

They are not the best RB room in the league, and Swift looking to stay healthy is not the end-all-be-all answer, but it’s another thing that can help the Lions’ offense produce much better in 2022. A healthy Swift will bring a lot of positives to the Lions’ 2022 roster.
