Detroit Lions brought in a weapon with addition of D.J. Chark
By Tyler Kotila
The Detroit Lions have done an impeccable job of revamping their offense ahead of the 2022 season. Between offseason additions and drafting, things look like they will be much different for the Lions this fall.
One of the team’s additions, D.J. Chark, will be a real game-changer for the Detroit Lions offense in 2022. While the offense had its woes in 2021, adding in someone like Chark is exactly what the Lions needed to do. (On top of the other things they have done; he’s not the sole answer)
Chark, a product of LSU, was picked up earlier this offseason in a move that brings a new weapon for Jared Goff to utilize in the 2022 season. Chark is a 6-foot-4, 210-pound wideout who’s spent five seasons in the NFL.
The 25-year-old wide receiver has been with the Jacksonville Jaguars until this point in his career but will look to hit the ground running in his new home. The big thing holding Chark back from being a high-profile wideout is his inability to stay healthy.
He will be a game-changer when he is on the field, but avoiding injury will be critical, especially after he missed all but four games in 2021 due to an ankle injury.
Detroit Lions bring in a game-changer with D.J. Chark.
It’s easy to call Chark a game-changer when he’s healthy. That will be the caveat for him to really be a benefit to this offense. He can be the outside wide receiver who catches the deep ball and gets open down-field.
With the addition of Jameson Williams in the draft after trading up, Chark should pair well with the rookie. The hope is that Williams can ease his way in after his ACL injury in the National Championship game while Chark does his thing.
During his 2019 season with the Jaguars, Chark came into his own and settled in as an NFL receiver. He logged 15 games, totaling 1,008 yards with eight touchdowns, and was named a Pro-Bowler as well.
In 2020, he would bounce back with 13 games played, netting 53 receptions for 706 yards and five scores for the Jaguars. The ankle injury mentioned above knocked most of his 2021 season off the table, but he did appear in four games where he had seven receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns.
Now in a new home, Chark will try and live up to the expectations by staying healthy and being an impact wideout for the Lions in 2022. It’s not crazy to expect Chark to be a game-changer in 2022; the bigger ask is likely going to be for him to stay healthy.
