The return of the NFL couldn’t be more exciting for Lions fans, especially ones looking to cash some bets on tonight’s action.

A hyped up Detroit team will face one of the stiffest tests in the NFL right off the bat – going to play at reigning Super Bowl Champion Kansas City (even if they’re missing players).

It might be asking too much for the Lions to win a game of this magnitude in Week 1, but Detroit fans can still win big even if the Lions don’t!

Here’s the bet I’m targeting in tonight’s game:

Lions vs. Chiefs Odds, Spread and Total

Lions vs. Chiefs Prediction

The odds have moved a few points in Detroit’s favor since news of Travis Kelce’s injury broke, and that makes me uncomfortable with the betting value on taking the Lions to win or cover the spread.

Kelce or not (and even without Chris Jones, too), the Chiefs are at home and still one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL simply because of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.

With that in mind, I’m targeting OVER 53.5 points in this game.

Detroit beefed up its defense this offseason (primarily in the secondary), but Mahomes has been ELECTRIC in Week 1 performances, and I don’t expect that to change tonight.

Since 2018, Mahomes has thrown for 3+ touchdowns in every single Week 1 matchup he’s played in. Of course, Mahomes might not have Kelce this time around, but the last time he played without his star TE, he threw for 258 yards and 3 TDs.

Detroit was 5th in the NFL in points per game last season and only improved its offense this past offseason. Going against a depleted Chiefs’ defense, look for this game to turn into a shootout.
