WATCH: Awesome Alley-Oop From Pistons’ Rookies Showcases Exciting Future
The Detroit Pistons have spent the past few seasons mired at the bottom of the NBA standings, but those years of struggle might finally be starting to pay off.
Detroit entered this season with a strong group of young returners, headlined by Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey, among others, but it looks like this year’s additions could be ready to contribute NOW.
If you need any more evidence, just watch this alley-oop connection between guard Marcus Sasser (No. 25 overall pick) and forward Ausar Thompson (No. 5 overall pick).
Marcus Sasser to Ausar Thompson Alley-Oop
Of course, that’s only one play, but let’s consider the bigger picture, too.
Sasser played a season-high 23 minutes in Wednesday’s loss to Portland, finishing with 8 points on 4-of-6 shooting with three rebounds, six assists (!) and four steals (!!).
The talented former Houston Cougar is averaging 4 points, 2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in just 9.5 minutes per game this season. If he keeps this up, it’s hard not to see those minutes going up.
It’s less surprising that Thomspon is already living up to the hype, given his draft spot and athletic pedigree.
And it hasn’t been all good as he’s making shots at just a 32.4% clip, but that’s largely due to a slow start.
Thompson has gone 14-of-28 from the field over his past two games and has recorded 7+ rebounds and 2+ assists in every game this season.
Those alley-oops (he caught one from Cunningham, too) sure won’t hurt to watch, either.
