Michigan Wolverines New Betting Favorite to Win National Championship
The Georgia Bulldogs had been entrenched as the betting favorites to win this year’s College Football Playoff, but that’s no longer the case.
Most major sportsbooks – DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and Caesars – now list Michigan as the betting favorite to bring home the championship at anywhere from +210 to +230 odds.
Why did this change, and does it actually mean anything?
Let’s break it down.
Michigan Football Odds to Win National Championship
It’s largely a two-team race at the top right now, according to oddsmakers, between Michigan and Georgia.
The Bulldogs have been the favorites for much of the season, but have had some closer-than-expected wins, including a 24-14 win over South Carolina, a 27-20 win over Auburn and a 30-21 win over Missouri.
Meanwhile, Michigan’s closest win has been a 31-7 win over Rutgers.
Teams like FSU, Ohio State and Alabama are also listed inside 10-to-1 odds to win the College Football Playoff, but it’s hard to see how they jump the Wolverines and Bulldogs without a significant stumble.
And there are very few chances for Michigan to suffer such a setback.
The Wolverines play No. 11 Penn State this week, unranked Maryland the following week and then No. 1 Ohio State in the regular season finale.
That means the CFP rankings don’t really matter right now. If Michigan wins out, it’s hard to see how they won’t achieve a season-ending No. 1 overall ranking.
Knowing that, NOW is the time to bet on Michigan, if you believe in them. You can bank on these odds only getting worse if the Wolverines make a statement win against the Nittany Lions this weekend and they would PLUMMET with a win over Ohio State.
If you want to bet on Michigan to win the CFP, you can do so with NO SWEAT at Caesars Sportsbook. All you have to do is sign up with Caesars, use the promo code FSFANS1000 and deposit $10 or more. Then, your first bet will be backed by the house for up to $1,000!
