Hendon Hooker was such a dynamic quarterback at the University of Tennessee that the Lions took a chance on him in the 3rd Round of the NFL Draft even while he was rehabbing a torn ACL.

We could soon get to see if that gamble will pay off. Lions coach Dan Campbell announced that Hooker could start practicing for the first time as soon as THIS WEEK!

That’s great news for several reasons, and should have you excited. Let’s break down what this means for Detroit this season.

Hendon Hooker to Start Practicing

It’s unlikely that Hooker will see meaningful snaps this season, considering that Jared Goff AND Teddy Bridgewater are ahead of him on the depth chart.

However, the added depth certainly can’t hurt (we all saw what happened to the 49ers last season) and he’s in a good spot to develop with no immediate pressure on him.

If you need a reminder of just how tantalizing his talent is, here’s his senior season stats at Tennessee:

11 games played, 3,135 passing yards (285 per game), completing 69.6% of passes with 27 TDs to 2 INTs (!!) along with 430 rushing yards and 5 TDs.

There’s a chance that Goff, 29, isn’t the long-term answer in Detroit. That might not be Hooker, either, but that’s definitely a possibility, and should be fun to watch.
