NFL Free Agency is not just about making the biggest splash possible, although that is typically a welcomed sight for the fans at this time of year. Free agency is a chance to raise the proverbial floor of your roster before the NFL Draft and for teams to give themselves the ultimate flexibility and freedom, especially teams like the Detroit Lions.

The Lions are legitimate Super Bowl contenders, which means their approach to NFL Free Agency has to be the best combination of measured and targeted. They can't just go spend "all the money" but they also have to be selectively aggressive and make sure they're not missing out on their top targets.

Among NFL free agents in 2025, there are a handful of former Lions players who could make sense to return to Detroit and join the team for their potential title run in 2025. Which reunions need to happen?

3 reunions for the Detroit Lions in 2025 NFL Free Agency

1. Jamaal Williams, running back

If only for the vibes, this move needs to happen.

Jamaal Williams was beloved as a member of the Detroit Lions, but the team obviously just couldn't commit the carries to him when the vision of pairing David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs manifested. Now, the Lions could legitimately justify bringing in Williams as a third back behind those two guys and wear teams down in the running game all season long.

Williams is going to be 30 this coming season and after a career year with the Lions back in 2022 in which he eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing with 17 touchdowns on the ground, he was used only sparingly as a member of the New Orleans Saints. It's really a shame that some of maybe his prime years were wasted in New Orleans the last couple of seasons, but that's life in the NFL.

The Lions could bring Williams back on a one-year deal and even just allow him to compete for a job on the 53-man roster in training camp.
