3 Lions on the Chopping Block After Ben Johnson's Departure

OL Graham Glasgow
The 2024 season was a rough one for Graham Glasgow. The 32-year-old veteran offensive lineman showed significant signs of decline, especially as the season progressed. His switch from right guard to left in the absence of Jonah Jackson didn't pay dividends for the Lions as Glasgow had the worst season of his career since his rookie campaign.
Glasgow received a 57.9 grade on Pro Football Focus, ranking 55th among 75 qualified guards in the league. His struggles continued in the playoffs and played a huge part in the lack of protection for Jared Goff against the Commanders. In 69 snaps, he received a miserable 10.2 pass block grade on PFF.
This is a huge decline from where he was last season. After signing with Detroit for his second stint in the 2023 offseason, Glasgow's versatility on the offensive line proved to be very valuable for the team. Things weren't the same in 2024.
In the 2024 offseason, the Lions signed Glasgow to a three-year, $20 million extension. He is now due $5.5 million next season and $6.5M the year after. It is hard to justify paying him that salary as he approaches his mid-30s and likely continues his decline.
With rookie Christian Mahogany showing flashes in his limited playing time, it would be wise for the Lions to move on from Glasgow. Whether through a trade or by cutting him, the Lions are likely better off without Glasgow and with a different look to their offensive line.
