3 perfect fits Pistons can acquire using Ron Holland as a trade chip

The Detroit Pistons' need to add more offensive juice is well-documented. It prevented them from making a deep postseason run last year, and it remains their biggest weakness as they hope to contend for a title this season.

Until the February trade deadline, Pistons fans will be hoping for an upgrade that can boost their offense. The front office will likely want to include Ron Holland and his $9 million salary as a trade chip in this deal.

Holland's lack of improvement in Year 3, poor fit next to Ausar Thompson, and contract structure make him the ideal matching salary in a trade. Attach some draft capital to Holland, and the Pistons can trade for some true difference-makers.

Ty Jerome

Believe it or not, Jerome has been one of the best players in the league this season. The 29-year-old point guard has been on a tear for the Memphis Grizzlies, averaging 27.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game on incredible 50.4/37.5/87.0 shooting splits.

As a result, the Grizzlies have been winning. If things continue this way, they would, of course, not trade Jerome.

But presumably there will be a regression to the mean. Once Jerome inevitably cools off and the Grizzlies look more like a Play-In team rather than a Western contender, they should have some interest in trading Jerome.

Jerome makes $9.2 million and has a player option for $9.6 million next season. He will almost certainly turn down that option and sign a long-term extension. The Pistons should try to acquire him with a package built around Ron Holland plus first-round picks.

Ryan Rollins

Rollins has been trending in the opposite direction to Jerome. After a strong season with the Bucks last season, where he emerged as a high-end starter, Rollins is off to a slow start. In fact, he just lost his starting spot to rookie Brayden Burries.

This could be an excellent buy-low opportunity for the Pistons. Rollins is a great fit in Detroit due to his ability to play on and off the ball offensively while being a quality defender. He can pass, shoot, and dribble. The Pistons don't have too many of those players.

Plus, Rollins is only 24 years old and makes $4 million. He will need a new contract over the summer, but due to his age and fit, he could be a long-term option in the backcourt. The Pistons would have to part ways with a first-round pick, but Rollins would be a worthy swing.

Norman Powell

This one is a little trickier because Powell makes $21.5 million this season. The Pistons would have to add more salary in the trade, most likely Kevin Huerter or Isaiah Joe, in addition to Holland.

In terms of availability, however, Powell is probably the easiest player to acquire on this list. Plus, we already know that the Pistons are interested. During free agency, Detroit reportedly pursued Powell, but the veteran shooting guard eventually signed with Chicago.

The Bulls are off to a horrendous start and aren't going anywhere. Powell is struggling like the entire team. But he made his first All-Star team just last season. If he can get back to anywhere near that level, he could be the secondary shot creator and scorer the Pistons need.
