4 Lions Fans Will Be Happy to See Leave in 2025 Free Agency
Everything went right for the Detroit Lions to make a Super Bowl run this season.
15-2 record? Check. First-round bye? Check. Being one of the NFL's best teams in all facets of the game? Check.
And then all the goodwill the Lions built up was completely nuked when they fell 45-31 to the Washington Commanders in the Division Round. Several coaches have since left Dan Campbell's staff and it won't be surprising if some players follow suit when the NFL's free agency period opens on Wednesday, March 12.
The Lions will make an effort to re-sign some key individuals, however, others won't receive a similar fate. With that in mind, here are four players Detroit fans will be thrilled to see leave town via free agency in March.
1. Kyle Peko, DT
Looking to solidify the defensive line, the Lions added Kyle Peko to their practice squad last season. It didn't take the ex-Oregon State Beaver long to impress the coaching staff, resulting in his addition to the 53-man roster before the regular season began.
Peko wound up playing 86 defensive snaps in his first five games before tearing his pectoral muscle in a Week 6 win over the Dallas Cowboys. The ailment ultimately ended the veteran defensive tackles campaign as he finished the year with one solo tackle and not much else to his name.
On top of that, the La Gabra, CA native finished with 45.8 overall defense and 36.8 run defense grades on Pro Football Focus, further establishing that the 2024 campaign was one of the worst of his career.
Peko is now slated to hit free agency and few people expect the Lions to retain his services. Although a bounce-back performance would be possible if he was younger, that seems unlikely at this stage of his career given that he's turning 32 years old this summer.
If Peko's NFL career continues, it likely won't be in the Motor City.
