The New York Jets officially kicked off the Aaron Glenn era in the Meadowlands on Thursday night by making former University of Missouri standout offensive tackle Armand Membou the team's selection with the No. 7 overall pick.

This marks the second straight draft where the Jets have elected to use their first round pick in order to upgrade the offensive line. However, perhaps more importantly, it also matches the formula used during his tenure in Motor City as Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes used a first round pick on offensive tackle Penei Sewell during Glenn's first year in Detroit.

Will Membou have the same impact on New York's success as Sewell did in Detroit? Time will only tell. One thing that Lions fans do know, however, is that it sure looks like Glenn is attempting to replicate what Detroit's front office accomplished in recent years by building not only a contender in the NFC North but a bonafide Super Bowl contender.

While imitation is said to be the most sincere form of flattery, it seems safe to say that Lions fans will be more supportive of Glenn attempting to follow the same playbook that Detroit's front office did in hopes of building a winner in the Big Apple than they will be of former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson trying to do the same with the Chicago Bears.

At the end of the day, Lions fans will be thankful for everything that Glenn did to help build a successful team under head coach Dan Campbell and he absolutely earned the opportunity to oversee a franchise of his own. They also will be far more focused on what Jared Goff and company are able to accomplish on the gridiron this coming season, as Detroit looks to improve upon their impressive 2024 campaign, to keep a close eye on how the rebuilding efforts in New York are going. Even if Glenn appears to be following a similar playbook.
