Having won the season series last year, the Detroit Lions went into Lambeau Field looking to repeat their dominance against the Packers. However, this wasn’t the case on Sunday, as the Lions suffered a brutal defeat, losing 27-13.
The Packers offense controlled the game despite having the ball for less than 25 minutes, scoring on five of their eight possessions. The pass rush, even with Aidan Hutchinson back, was nonexistent, as they recorded zero sacks.
Although it’s only been one game, it’s evident that the defense misses Aaron Glenn. Meanwhile, Glenn made history in his coaching debut with the Jets by instilling a Lions-like mentality with his new team.
Jets Finish Game with 2 Punts Under Aaron Glenn
Despite losing a back-and-forth game against the Steelers, the Jets did something they haven’t done since 1991: record zero punts in the first half. While this may be surprising to Jets fans, this isn’t a shock to any Lions fans.
That’s because in the Dan Campbell era, the Lions have taken an aggressive approach on fourth down by opting to go for it rather than punt the ball. Last year, the Lions had the fewest punts (45), the fourth most fourth-down attempts (33), and the third most conversions (22).
As displayed in today’s game, Glenn has taken the aggressive approach from his time in Detroit and instilled it in the Jets, opting to go for it on fourth down on two occasions. Glenn’s Jets converted on one of those attempts, while only punting twice in the game.
Even though the Jets lost 34-32, it’s clear that Glenn has constructed a competent team, which Jets fans haven’t seen in some time. The Jets have missed the playoffs for 14 consecutive seasons, tying them for the longest playoff drought among the four major sports in the United States.
If there’s any coach that can help the Jets end this streak and bring a similar culture change to a team like Campbell did with the Lions, it’s Aaron Glenn.
