Several teams around the NFL have undergone fairly big transformations this offseason and the Detroit Lions aren't an exception.
The Lions' coaching staff took some major hits shortly after falling to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson left to go become head coach of the rival Chicago Bears while defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn decided to try his hand at guiding the New York Jets.
Although Johnson and Glenn were replaced with John Morton and Kelvin Sheppard, respectively, fans are still worried about how the pair's departure may impact the Lions' outlook. That's why one of Detroit's stars recently came out to assure that the fanbase doesn't need to be concerned.
Lions News: Aidan Hutchinson Reacts to Losing Ben Johnson & Aaron Glenn
On Wednesday, Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson appeared on "The Squeeze," a podcast hosted by celebrity couple Taylor and Tay Lautner. The former Pro Bowl defender talked about the Lions' offseason during his appearances, including how losing coaches doesn't matter as long as head coach Dan Campbell is around.
"Obviously keeping Dan (Campbell) there is what we all want. But coordinators, position coaches, it doesn’t matter," Hutchinson said. "As long as we have the right guys in the locker room and those foundation guys on offense and on defense, you can roll anyone in there to call the plays."
"At the end of the day, it’s going to be the playmakers who are making those plays on Sundays."
Hutchinson's confidence is admirable, especially after only spending three seasons in the league. Johnson and Glenn are the only NFL coordinators that the former 2022 second-overall pick has known, so the fact that he can envision a future without them is a mature mindset to have.
The Lions were one of the best teams on both sides of the ball in 2024, making fans' concerns more than justified. Detroit's elite performance was solidified by it finishing the season with the second-best offense (88.5) and fifth-best defense (76.8) grades on Pro Football Focus.
Now that Johnson and Glenn have moved on, it'll be interesting to see if the Lions can continue that dominance. Campbell & Co. are coming off a season that saw them earn a franchise-record 15 wins and even though things ended on a sour note, the Lions have all the tools to remain Super Bowl contenders for years to come.
Speaking of which, Detroit currently holds the fifth-best Super Bowl 60 odds (+900) on FanDuel Sportsbooks.
In other words, Hutchinson has every right to feel confident in the Lions' outlook in 2025 and beyond.
