The Detroit Lions have experienced a ton of turnover since their season ended in the Divisional Round.

They have seen both Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson leave town for head coaching gigs this offseason. Defensive line coach Terrell Williams and assistant quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett also left.

Receivers coach Antwaan Randle El was added to the list, leaving to join Johnson in Chicago, and his departure included some surprising circumstances. Star receiver Amon-Ra St.Brown revealed how he found out that Randle El was leaving.

Lions News: Amon-Ra St. Brown Discusses How He Learned Antwaan Randle El Was Leaving

During an episode of the St. Brown podcast, Amon-Ra talked about Randle El's departure. The Lions receivers and Randle El have a group chat together and Amon-Ra decided to text the chat.

He said, "El. Ain't you from Chicago? You following Ben? I sent that at 6:17 PM. Two minutes later I get a call from him. He goes, 'Hey man, how'd you know? Did that get leaked?"

The USC product answered the call, and Randle El said that he was going to take the job with the Bears. He was named their wide receivers coach and assistant head coach. St. Brown understood that this was a step up for Randle El and held no hard feelings against his coach.

Randle El is also from Chicago, which made the move more sensible. The 45-year-old got into NFL coaching in 2019 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He landed as the Lions wide receiver coach from 2021-2024.

He and St. Brown developed a strong bond as the 25-year-old came into the league in 2021. Over 66 games with Detroit, St. Brown had 430 receptions (570 targets) for 4,851 yards and 33 touchdowns.

Randle El helped with the development of Jameson Williams as well but the Lions will have to look elsewhere to replace him along the staff.

The Lions have seen a bunch of success over the last two seasons, which led to multiple coaches being poached. Randle El will square off against his ex-team twice going forward, but his former players wish him nothing but the best.
