The Detroit Lions have seen free agents leave the Motor City ever since the tampering period opened on Monday. That trend continued on Tuesday, with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reporting that wide receiver/returner Kalif Raymond has left the Lions to sign with the rival Chicago Bears.

While Raymond staying in the NFC North isn't ideal, the Lions made the right decision to move on. He was clearly less important to the 2025 offense and can be easily replaced in the return game.

Now, his exit creates a clear opportunity for fellow WR Isaac TeSlaa to take his game to new heights in Year 2.

Isaac TeSlaa's Lions Outlook Improves as Kalif Raymond Joins Bears

TeSlaa finished the 2025 season with 239 receiving yards and six touchdowns on only 16 total receptions. It was clear that quarterback Jared Goff had trust in TeSlaa around the goal line, especially with his ability to go up and make contested catches in the end zone.

With Raymond now out of the way, fans should expect to see this far more often in the upcoming season.

Already, TeSlaa was expected to be a more important piece based on natural progression and the future he flashed this past season. The Lions have no excuse left not to give TeSlaa far more consistent snaps and the ability to play a larger role behind Jameson Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Raymond finished the 2025 season with 289 receiving yards and a lone touchdown despite having more early trust from the Lions. This is a far cry from the 616 yards he offered in 2022 or the 489 yards put up in the 2023 season. The writing has been on the wall that his importance to the Lions' offense was waning, and signing with a division rival headlines this fact.

Even if his performance wasn't special, Raymond's 30 targets and 358 offensive snaps must go to someone. TeSlaa could benefit from seeing even a quarter of those opportunities given to him, potentially leaving him ready to make an even bigger mark in Year 2.

Lions fans should be excited by the prospect of TeSlaa learning from and thriving in his new situation. Detroit's pass attack is already electric with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Sam LaPorta as Goff's top targets, and TeSlaa taking his game to the next level would make the passing offense that much stronger.

TeSlaa is a special player, and Raymond's exit clears the room for him to showcase what he's got. That makes the 2025 fifth-rounder's offseason progress that much more interesting to monitor.
