The Detroit Lions are coming off the most disappointing season of the Dan Campbell era. Ever since he turned the team's franchise around, they've been expected to compete at the highest level, and not making the playoffs was a massive blow.

However, there was no need to sound the alarms. This roster was already set for the most part, and they didn't have to go big-name hunting in the offseason, as much as the fans would've loved to see that happen.

With that in mind, Coach Campbell echoed his general manager's sentiment. When asked about the state of the roster, Campbell all but confirmed they're more than satisfied with the squad they've put together.

The Detroit Lions won't make a big move

“This will be the most competition we’ve had, in my opinion, top-tier competition,” Campbell said, per Justin Rogers of Detroit Football Network. “This will be good. This is going to be good across the board. So now it’s just, let’s get acclimated. We want to hit the ground running when we get to late July, August.”

That sounds great, and it's definitely what everyone wants to hear from the head coach. It also shows that he's, once again, in full alignment with the front office. Nevertheless, for those who like to read between the lines, that might not be great news.

With that simple statement, Coach Campbell has all but ruled out making a big move. The roster is pretty much set, and those still waiting for another lofty addition to the defense, such as Joey Bosa or Jadeveon Clowney, will be in for a rude awakening.

Still, that's not inherently a bad thing. This is the same roster that was tabbed as a Super Bowl contender in the past couple of seasons, and with a new offensive coordinator and an easier schedule, this team should be able to get back on track after a rare off-year.

The Lions could still use another top-tier pass rusher opposite Aidan Hutchinson, and another bad season from Terrion Arnold could also bring trouble on that side of the field. That said, rookies Derrick Moore and Keith Abney II might push the veterans and keep them on their toes, knowing that they could lose their starting spots.

For years, this team has been all about pride and accountability. They should have a boulder on their shoulder the size of Michigan after a disappointing campaign in 2025, and Coach Campbell should know how to push their buttons, ruffle some feathers, and re-ignite this team's competitive fire after getting a bit too complacent.

Not every move has to be a swing for the fences. This team already had a strong core, and as disappointed as some fans might be, actual NFL teams aren't run like video games. This team should be just fine.
