The Detroit Lions are set to open up postseason competition on Saturday as they are scheduled to play the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. The Lions are the No. 1 seed in the NFC, which means they had a bye for wildcard weekend.

Detroit needed the bye as they’ve been battered by injuries all season, with several players on injured reserve. The Lions hope to have a few injured players back on the field for Saturday’s game, including veteran running back David Montgomery.

Montgomery suffered a potential season-ending left knee injury in Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills, but he only had an MCL sprain. After getting multiple medical opinions, the veteran running back went with the rehab route and will be ready for the NFC divisional round.

On Monday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided a further injury update that should excite the fanbase heading into the divisional round against the Commanders.

According to Colton Pouncey of The Athletic, Campbell said, “We didn’t have any injuries over the last few days, so I think we’re OK.”

With the Lions having a bye, it’s not shocking that they had no injuries to report. But as they say, no news is good news sometimes.

To Campbell’s credit this season, Detroit has overcome several injuries to win the NFC North title and the No. 1 seed in Week 18 en route to an outstanding 15-2 record. The Lions and the Chiefs are the only teams with 15 wins.

The Lions will face a Commanders team playing free and coming off a huge playoff road win on Sunday over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Detroit did not play Washington this season, making this the first time they’ll see potential Offensive Rookie of the Year winner Jayden Daniels.

Daniels has done a great job throwing the ball but using his legs to make plays on the ground this season. Detroit’s defense, which got back veteran linebacker Alex Anzalone in Week 18, will have its work cut out for them in trying to slow down Daniels.
