The Detroit Lions are still recovering from the loss to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round. The Lions were believed to be Super Bowl contenders after they clinched their first-ever No. 1 seed.

Despite all the hype and expectations, the Lions' are heading into the offseason earlier than they hoped. Quarterback Jared Goff struggled immensely in the loss to Washington and has been called out by fans and members of the national media.

Frank Ragnow and Penei Sewell have defended their quarterback following the loss. Head coach Dan Campbell spoke with team reporters on Monday and continued to protect Goff from blame.

Lions News: Dan Campbell Defends Jared Goff

Campbell said, "We earned that loss together."

That statement is what you expect from Campbell. He's the type of coach who will take all the blame and never publicly throw his players under the bus. That's the culture he has built, and you see that the way players have come to defend Goff.

In the loss to the Commanders, Goff went 23-of-40 for 313 yards with one passing touchdown but three interceptions. One of the picks was returned for a score. He even lost a fumble.

In a postseason matchup, you can't afford to turn the ball over at the rate that Goff did. That came back to bite them, especially since Washington played a clean game (zero turnovers).

Goff's bad performance had a major effect on the Lions' loss. Regardless, throwing your QB under the bus won't do anything positive. It would actually create more drama in an offseason where the Lions will have a lot of turnover.

Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson are likely going to land new HC gigs. The Lions will have changes among their coaching staff so alienating your QB isn't the wise choice. Instead, Campbell is giving his QB confidence after one of his worst postseason performances.
