Surprise news keeps coming out of OTAs this week for the Detroit Lions. First, it was Frank Ragnow's retirement, which came out of nowhere and left Lions fans in shock. On Thursday, another unexpected update took the fans by surprise.
Multiple Lions reporters revealed on Thursday afternoon that star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown underwent cleanup surgery on his knee after the 2024 season.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Reveals Surprise Offseason Surgery During Lions OTAs
While this news initially raised the concern level among Lions fans, St. Brown reportedly added that he will be good to go for the start of training camp. This should hopefully mitigate some worry Lions hopefuls may be feeling about their star offensive weapon's status for next season.
This also explains why St. Brown has not been in attendance during the team's OTAs so far. The 25-year-old wide receiver didn't have any reported issues or concerns coming out of last season, making his absence in the first phase of the offseason workouts more surprising.
St. Brown played all 17 games last season and was dominant in Detroit's postseason loss to the Washington Commanders. He is coming off yet another season of elite production. He has been fortunate enough in his NFL career so far that he hasn't had any serious or nagging ailments.
Lions fans will be hoping that their star playmaker can get back to his All-Pro form before Week 1 of the regular season.
Fortunately for the Lions, St. Brown's absence may not be too big of a deal. OTAs are more important for rookies, newcomers, and players on the roster bubble. St. Brown already has a clearly defined role and an established relationship with Jared Goff and the coaching staff.
As long as he is ready for training camp and preseason, where he can ramp up, he should be good to go for the regular season opener.
