June has almost reached its halfway point, meaning the NBA offseason action is bound to ramp up in the coming weeks. The early summer is a perfect opportunity for fans to check in on what some of their team's former players are planning this offseason, and the Detroit Pistons fanbase isn't an exception.
While some ex-Pistons are focused on landing new NBA opportunities when free agency begins on July 6, others' futures will continue overseas. That includes on former failed Detroit guard who seems to be attracting a fair bit of international attention this month.
Former Pistons Guard Carsen Edwards Being Eyed by Paris Basketball
On Thursday, Meridian Sport reported (h/t EuroHoops) that international powerhouse, Paris Basketball, "have now set their sights" on former Pistons guard Carsen Edwards. Paris is reportedly seeking "another backcourt leader" and views Edwards as the perfect candidate for the job.
It isn't surprising to see Edwards garnering attention following a strong EuroLeague performance with Bayern Munich. The ex-Purdue Boilermaker averaged a league-leading 20.5 points per game while shooting 44.9% from the floor and 36.0% from deep, all while adding 3.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.0 steals en route to being named to the 2025 All-EuroLeague First Team.
Pistons fans will remember Edwards from his brief run in the Motor City a few years ago. After a solid showing with the NBA G League's Salt Lake City Stars, Edwards joined the Pistons on a two-year contract in April 2022. He only averaged 5.8 points, 3.5 assists, a 30.0 FG%, and a 25.0 3P% in four outings before Detroit had seen enough and declined his team option in the offseason.
Edwards hasn't played an NBA game since his last outing as a Piston. He spent 2022 in Turkey before moving to Germany to spend the last two campaigns with Bayern. That includes when he helped his team win the 2024 Basketball Bundesliga title, taking home Finals MVP honors in the process.
Even though his NBA career didn't pan out, it's great to see Edwards thriving overseas. He's only 27 years old, though, meaning the former Pistons guard has plenty of time to attempt a North American comeback if he ends up putting pen to paper with Paris.
And who knows? With the Pistons' backcourt potentially losing key veterans this summer, perhaps a Motor City reunion could be in Edwards' future, too.
