Former Lions QB Tim Boyle received a stunning opportunity in Week 15 with his new team, suddenly getting thrust into a starting job with the Giants following their latest disaster of a contest.

Boyle spent the 2021 season with Detroit. He's never been a reliable option under center though has still carved out a nice career as a backup. Unfortunately, he had to become the main guy against the Eagles.

Not surprisingly, it was an abject disaster.

Former Lions QB Tim Boyle Gets Stunning Opportunity in Week 15

If you have to put Boyle in at quarterback, things aren't going well. Tommy DeVito started but had to exit early, giving Boyle the chance to shine and earn another contract at his next team.

Instead, the Giants got decimated by a playoff-bound Ravens squad. Throughout his career, Boyle has completed 61.7% of his passes for 1,087 yards while throwing four TDs to 12 interceptions. To say the least, it's not been a promising start to his career.

The journeyman never made a large contribution to the Lions, going 0-3 with 526 yards in his time with the team. Adequate backups are hard to come by and it's logical to have him be your second or third-string signal caller.

Once you actually depend on him to deliver, things get dicey. Luckily for Giants fans, Boyle didn't do anything to prevent a high selection in the 2025 Draft. The Giants need to conduct a massive overhaul of the roster, finding playmakers for positions that have huge holes at the moment.

There isn't a great reason to feel optimistic about the outlook of the team, though things can change drastically in just one offseason. Either way, Boyle got his chance and proved the Lions correct. They moved on from him for good reason and nothing he did in Week 15 suggested the organization made a poor decision.

Detroit remains the best team in the NFC with a clear path to the Super Bowl. Barring disaster, this squad has every chance in the world to compete for the first Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.
