Former Lion Thanks Detroit for Refusing to Bring Him Back

The NFL veteran will regret these comments once the regular season kicks off.

Sometimes it is better to keep your thoughts to yourself rather than sharing them with the world.

One member of the Detroit Lions' 2024 roster probably should have taken those words to heart before hitting send on a recent social media post after he had agreed on a contract with a new team.

Rather than taking the typical route of saying their goodbyes and thanking their former organization for the opportunities they presented, something we see in free agency regardless of the sport, the three-time All-Pro took a shot at the Lions and several other teams.

Ex-Lions S Jamal Adams Thanks Detroit for Refusing to Bring Him Back

Veteran safety Jamal Adams joined Detroit's roster during the final month of the 2024 regular season and proceeded to appear in two games for the Lions, both of which he started. With previously injured players ready to return to the lineup, Detroit released Adams on Jan. 1, 2025, after the safety had recorded three total tackles in his two appearances with the team.

Earlier this week, Adams agreed to a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. While the terms of the deal are not known, the move reunites the veteran safety with his head coach during his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks, Pete Carroll. From Adams' recent social media activity, he appears to be very happy with that result.

"For every door that closed on me, thank you," Adams posted on X earlier this week.

The connection between Adams and Carroll is likely the driving force behind the Raiders' decision to sign him. From a football perspective alone, nothing Adams has done on the field since suffering a torn quad tendon in Week 1 of the 2022 season has given NFL front offices a reason to think he could be the answer to their problems in the secondary.

Before joining the Lions to close out the 2024 regular season, Adams was a member of the lowly Tennessee Titans and had to ask for his release after being moved to the team's reserve/non-football injury list after seeing the field for just 20 snaps over three games.

Detroit fans have no reason to hold any ill will against Adams following these comments. They have more important things to focus on as the Lions aim for the franchise's first NFC Championship and the berth in the Super Bowl that comes with it.

Perhaps Adams will think differently about Detroit when they are competing in the playoffs this winter and the Raiders are watching the postseason from the comfort of their couch.
