The Detroit Lions have undergone plenty of change over the past couple of seasons but it paled into comparison to what happened during the Matt Patricia era. Several players who brought the Lions to respectability during the early 2010s were swept out as Patricia tried to bring “The Patriot Way” to Detroit and it led many to find a fresh start somewhere else.

One of the players that left was Quandre Diggs, who was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in the middle of the 2019 season. While Diggs reached his prime in the Pacific Northwest, he began a new chapter with the Tennessee Titans last season and had an uncertain future as he became a free agent last spring.

But after reuniting with the Titans on Tuesday, Diggs had some “first day of school vibes” and walked into an immediate punishment as he returned to the practice field.

Diggs agreed to a one-year contract to return to Tennessee on Tuesday and was immediately put to work before Wednesday’s practice. With his teammates standing around him, Diggs started doing “up downs” as a punishment for not joining the team for training camp and immediately got back to work as the huddle dispersed.

This may not have been a punishment as far as some ribbing from his peers. But as Diggs begins his second season with the Titans, he has a lot to prove.

A sixth-round pick by the Lions in the 2015 draft, Diggs became a ballhawk and leader in the Detroit secondary with six interceptions in his four-plus seasons. He hit another gear after the trade to Seattle, logging three picks in the second half of the 2019 season and logging 15 interceptions over the next four seasons while making the Pro Bowl in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The performance helped Diggs earn a three-year, $40 million extension with Seattle in 2022 but a decline led to his release after the 2023 season. He failed to log a pass defense or interception in eight games with Tennessee last year before a Lisfranc injury sidelined him for the second half of last season.

After spending the entire offseason on the open market, Diggs made the choice to return to the Titans for the 2025 season to play with his cousin Cam Ward, who was the No. 1 overall pick in April’s draft. But his teammates still couldn’t resist giving Diggs a ribbing and reminded the 32-year-old he has a lot to prove in the upcoming season.
