The Detroit Lions expected to lose Aaron Glenn this season. The former defensive coordinator was a hot name for a head coaching job during this year’s cycle and he ultimately cashed in, becoming the lead man for the New York Jets last month.

But while many were happy for Glenn, they haven’t been thrilled with what’s happened since he left. Several members of the Lions coaching staff followed Glenn to New York and with a staff that looks a lot like the one he left in Detroit, the 52-year-old added another former Lions coach and player on Sunday afternoon.

Aaron Glenn Adds Former Lions Cornerback Dre Bly to Jets Coaching Staff

According to Mike Mitchell of The Jet Press, former Lions cornerback and coach Dre' Bly will join Glenn’s staff with the Jets. Bly is expected to work as a cornerbacks coach while Al Harris will work with the defensive backs and serve as the passing game coordinator.

Bly began his career as a second-round pick by the St. Louis Rams in the 1999 NFL Draft and signed a five-year, $24.5 million free agent contract with the Lions in 2003. While he won the Super Bowl with the Rams during his rookie season, Bly enjoyed the best years of his career in Detroit collecting 19 of his 43 career interceptions and making the Pro Bowl in 2003 and 2004.

The North Carolina product broke into coaching as a cornerbacks coach for his alma mater in 2019 and took the same position on Dan Campbell’s staff in 2023. He spent last season as a defensive analyst the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and will return to the NFL to help Glenn in his first year with the Jets.

Bly’s arrival brings the number of former Lions coaches on the Jets staff to three as Steve Heiden left Detroit to coach the offensive line in New York and passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand was hired as the Jets offensive coordinator last month.

It will give a familiar look to Glenn’s staff in The Big Apple and give Detroit another name to follow next season.
