While other fans throughout the league may have concerns over who their QB1 will be once the 2025 regular season kicks off this September, the Detroit Lions have nothing to worry about in that area as Jared Goff has cemented his place among the elite signal-callers in the game today.

Unfortunately, that leaves the quarterbacks who have been behind Goff on the depth chart with very few opportunities to prove themselves and even less job security, as Goff has started all 17 games for Detroit over the last three seasons.

One of those quarterbacks who sat behind Goff on the depth chart is no longer on the roster and may not find a new home in the NFL anytime soon.

Former Lions QB Nate Sudfeld Likely Won't Get a Job Anytime Soon

Lions fans will remember Nate Sudfeld from his time with the franchise, as he spent over two seasons on the roster before being a training camp casualty ahead of the team's final cuts before the 2024 campaign.

Sudfeld never latched on with another organization after being released by Detroit in August of 2024 and rarely saw meaningful playing time while part of the roster. Outside of preseason play, Sudfeld appeared in two games during the 2022 season and was sacked one time for a loss of seven yards.

The former University of Indiana standout quarterback was selected in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the, then, Washington Redskins. He didn't have his first chance to play in a game until the regular season finale of the 2017 season when he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.

What he accomplished in that performance will be something Sudfeld that never forgets, though, as he broke what, at the time, was an NFL record that had been in place since 1968 by completing 83% of his passes (19 of 23) in his professional debut.

For his career, Sudfeld appeared in just six regular-season games, with two of those appearances coming during his time with Detroit. With Sudfeld having not had any opportunities come his way at this point in the summer, the likelihood that he locks down a job anytime soon appears to be slim.
