The NFL offseason is a time for fresh starts as dozens of free agents sign with new franchises in hopes of continuing their football careers. Unfortunately, landing new opportunities can be easier said than done for certain players, which is highlighted by a handful of former Detroit Lions who are struggling to find new jobs.

Having said that, one ex-Lions signal-caller is officially out of the unemployment line after signing a new NFL contract on Wednesday afternoon.

Titans Sign Former Lions QB Tim Boyle in Week 3 of NFL Free Agency

Former Lions quarterback Tim Boyle has signed a contract with the Tennessee Titans, according to team reporter Jim Wyatt. The signing continues Boyle's tour around the NFL as the Titans will mark the eighth franchise that the Hartford, CT native will be a part of.

Boyle, 30, began his NFL journey as a 2018 undrafted free agent with the rival Green Bay Packers following a collegiate career split between Connecticut and Eastern Kentucky. His run with the Packers lasted three years before he eventually signed a one-year contract with the Lions ahead of the 2021 campaign.

With QB1 Jared Goff dealing with injuries, Boyle ended up making five appearances (3 starts) for the Lions in 2021. His performances often frustrated Detroit fans as he led the team to a 0-3 record, completing only 64.9% of passes for 526 yards, three touchdowns (to 6 interceptions), and a 63.5 passer rating.

Even though the Lions signed him to a one-year extension after the season ended, Boyle's time in the Motor City didn't last long. The Chicago Bears signed him off Detroit's practice squad in November 2022, and he's since spent time with the New York Jets, Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, and New York Giants.

Even though he's far from the best quarterback in the sport, Boyle must be doing something right to be collecting NFL contracts like Infinity Stones. The veteran passer is likely a well-respected locker-room presence at this stage of his career who can challenge middling QBs for backup roles, meaning he'll likely continue landing gigs as long as he doesn't commit any glaring gaffs.

Certain teams just aren't good fits for some players, so it's nice to see that Boyle is finding success nearly three years after his Lions exit. Whether he plays anything meaningful games for the Titans this season remains to be seen, though.
