September is right around the corner. That means teams across MLB are gearing up for the playoff push that comes each year at the end of a long 162-game regular season schedule.
While it remains to be seen whether or not the franchise is interested in pursuing a reunion with the veteran, a former member of the Detroit Tigers' starting pitching staff has officially entered free agency on Wednesday after clearing waivers after his release by the Minnesota Twins.
According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic, veteran pitcher Jose Ureña is now a free agent and, with that, can sign with whatever team he chooses.

Former Tigers SP Jose Urena Enters Free Agency After Clearing Waivers
Ureña was a member of Detroit's pitching staff during the 2021 season and performed well for the Tigers during his lone season in the Motor City. His 4-8 record and 5.81 ERA don't show it, but Ureña put together one of the better stretches from any Detroit pitcher in recent memory when he became the first Tigers starter to have four consecutive starts of at least seven innings while allowing two runs or fewer in every start since David Price in 2015.
Unfortunately, a lack of run support resulted in Ureña picking up a victory in just one of those four appearances. This is one of the downfalls of being a starting pitcher. You can put together a month of fantastic baseball and only have one win to show for it due to the offense not being able to string hits together.
Finding a new team to pitch for has never been an issue for Ureña as he has suited up for 10 different franchises during his career. Whether it is an 11th franchise that picks him up next, or he starts having reunions at some of his former stops, the 33-year-old will be waiting on the call to come with his next opportunity.
