It has been a chaotic couple of weeks for the Detroit Lions. They entered the postseason with Super Bowl aspirations but that quickly went into flames. After getting eliminated by Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round, changes to the Lions coaching staff started flying in.
Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson went to become the Chicago Bears head coach. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn left to take the New York Jets job. The Lions replaced him with Kelvin Sheppard.
There is still a void at OC but a frontrunner has emerged. During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, ESPN's Adam Schefter said that John Morton is a serious candidate to land the offensive coordinator job.

Lions Rumors: Adam Schefter Thinks John Morton is a Real Threat To Land OC Job
Schefter said, "I would expect John Morton to be the offensive coordinator in Detroit."
Morton has interviewed for the vacant position and impressed Detroit's front office. For the past two seasons, the 55-year-old was the Denver Broncos' pass game coordinator. Prior to landing in Denver, Morton was in Detroit for the 2022 season as a Senior offensive assistant.
Before these two stops, Morton held different roles with the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets. He was only the offensive coordinator with the Jets in 2017 but still has a great offensive mind. And during his lone season with Detroit, he had a good impact on them.
Head coach Dan Campbell said, "John Morton, man, Johnny was – Johnny’s a superstar now and there’s a number of things that he did for us last year that are things that we’ve kept. And I really feel like that helped Tanner as well. And he took a lot of that, and he learned from that, and he’s grown from that.”
If he does land the offensive coordinator job, he'll have big shoes to fill. The Lions finished the regular season second in the league in total offense (409.5) and passing offense (263.2). They were also sixth in rushing offense (146.4) and first in scoring offense (33.2).
The Lions search for offensive coordinator is still ongoing but Morton is a name to watch.
