Detroit Lions fans can't help but hold their collective breath throughout camp and the preseason when it comes to the health of the roster. The 2024 season is the perfect example of just how quickly injuries can ruin expectations. Detroit appeared poised to make an elusive Super Bowl run before injuries finally caught up to the franchise in round one. With this in mind, Lions fans have every reason to be concerned about star corner Terrion Arnold.

The corner has missed time due to a pulled hamstring and, according to Dan Campbell, wasn't expected to return before next week. However, this isn't the case with Arnold showing up in uniform and going through individual drills. While the defender might not be ready to perform at full speed, showing up in his capacity was a welcome surprise for Lions fans.

Campbell's comments did clarify that Arnold's injury wasn't serious, but it didn't seem a return would be so sudden. Hamstring injuries can often be tweaked further or linger longer than expected. Detroit giving the veteran as much time as possible made sense. Last season served as a perfect lesson of why caution is welcome when it comes to handling injuries.

Lions Corner Terrion Arnold Makes Surprise Return to Practice

Arnold, going through individual drills, doesn't completely wipe away Campbell's statement, but simply means the corner is closing in on a return. Perhaps Arnold even surprised the head coach with how close to a return he has gotten this week. Regardless, it is great news for Detroit fans who have every reason to be extremely concerned when it comes to any injury updates.

Looking at the NFC picture, it is fair to view the Philadelphia Eagles and Lions as the prohibitive favorites. The Lions are the one roster capable of making a run and slowing down the impressive roster Philly has assembled. However, there are questions lingering as the Lions attempt to replace both coordinators.

This further illustrates how important health will be for a roster that has every reason to believe a slight step back is possible. At the very least, the Lions should expect some early growing pains as they look to replace the lost leadership. As great as Campbell might be, the head coach needs reliable coordinators, and we are yet to find the answer to whether or not the new additions fit this. This is the one remaining concern as the latest injury scare appears to be safely in the rearview.
