Many of the major events in the 2025 offseason have been completed, with all that's left is the NFL draft in just under three weeks. While the draft is always an exciting time, fans are left with very little to talk about between the "end of free agency" and the draft. That said, the Detroit Lions released some interesting news on Friday.

According to an X post by Adam Schefter, two key Lions players will be wearing new numbers in 2025. Wide receiver Jameson Williams will be switching from 9 to 1 and running back Jahmyr Gibbs will be switching from 26 to 0. Williams swapping numbers could end up costing some Lions fans more money.

Jameson Williams Switches Jersey Number from #9 to #1

The 24-year-old receiver is coming off the best year of his career. In 2024, Williams recorded 58 receptions on 91 targets for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns. His breakout season comes on the heels of him playing the most games in a season with 15.

The two games Williams missed in 2024 were due to a suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy. This wasn't Williams's first time dealing with suspension, as he was suspended twice in 2023.

The first suspension was due to him violating the NFL's gambling policy, which netted him a four-game absence. The second suspension came later in the 2023 season after he violated the NFL's performance-enhancing drug (PED) policy; this netted a two-game absence.

That said, Williams proved he is a playmaker in 2024. Yet, the departure of wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El leaves questions about whether Williams can still get out of trouble. Last season, fans witnessed how hard Randle El coached Williams after he made mistakes in games.

Hopefully, Williams is able to take those lessons and apply them by himself without needing to be reminded. Regardless, as long as Williams continues to produce, Lions fans won't mind buying another jersey, even if they did by a #9 one during or after the 2024 season.
