The Detroit Lions have seen a lot of change and movement along the coaching staff and roster since January.

Despite all the movement, the Lions still have a talented group that is ready to ball out in 2025. Tanner Engstrand was the passing game coordinator last season but left to become the New York Jets' offensive coordinator under Aaron Glenn.

David Shaw replaced him in that role and is ready to help the offense stay on track. Voluntary workouts have been happening in Detroit, and quarterback Jared Goff is already making an impression on Shaw.

He said, "There's a hunger in Jared (Goff), and I think it's great...you can feel it...he's trying to play up to his standard and bring everybody up along with him."

Brian Shaw Sees Something Different in Jared Goff

Goff is certainly looking to bounce back in 2025 after having a dreadful performance in the divisional round loss to the Washington Commanders. In that loss, he went 23-of-40 for 313 yards, one passing touchdown, and three interceptions, including a pick-six. He also lost a fumble.

That left a bad taste in his mouth. We can't forget that Ben Johnson is no longer in town, and people are already saying Goff won't be as good without him calling the shots. A combination of these things has Goff already looking like he's in a different mode, and he's making it clear.

Shaw was Stanford's head coach from 2011-2022 before becoming the Denver Broncos' senior personnel executive for the 2024 season. He hasn't been around Goff for long, and he already notices something different. That feeling may be something felt around the organization, and that's a good sign.

In four seasons with the Lions, Goff has completed 67.9% for 16,887 passing yards, 115 passing touchdowns, and 39 interceptions. These are great stats, but this season is more important than ever. It sounds like he realizes that and is putting in the work to be successful in this campaign.
