There have been significant changes in many quarterback rooms across the NFL throughout this offseason, whether it's the Pittsburgh Steelers' ongoing drama or the Cleveland Browns trying to figure out how to absolve themselves from the Deshaun Watson fiasco.
Fortunately, the Detroit Lions have stability at the position with Jared Goff. While the team is undergoing major changes otherwise, they know that they have their signal caller set in stone for the foreseeable future.
However, recent beloved backup Teddy Bridgewater is still unsigned, and one enemy team just picked up a much worse quarterback to be their backup instead of the 32-year-old veteran. This is a clear sign that Bridgewater may be planning on ending his NFL career again.
We have signed free agent QB Logan Woodside.

Bengals Sign QB Logan Woodside While Teddy Bridgewater Remains on the Street
In an announcement made on the Cincinnati Bengals' official X account, they revealed they signed 30-year-old quarterback Logan Woodside.
Woodside wasn't on a team in 2024 though has previously spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans. By any measure, he doesn't have the experience and success that Bridgewater does. Fans were excited when Bridgewater attempted an NFL comeback following a remarkable year in which he led his high school alma mater to a state championship. He likely has a future in coaching, yet it appears that Bridgewater still wants to play in the league.
During his career, Bridgewater has a 33-32 record as a starter. A former first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in thet 2014 NFL Draft, he suffered a devastating knee injury that derailed his career, though rebounded to post strong seasons with the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.
He came out of retirement, after a season of coaching high school football, to join the Lions at the end of the 2024-25 season after having originally finished his career with the Lions in 2023.
His reputation speaks for itself, so this lack of signing seems to be a strong indicator that Bridgewater himself could be the driving force behind the lack of news. If this is the case, don't expect it to be long before the vet ends up back in the NFL as a coach. With the recent influx in backup QB-turned-coaching wunderkind stories, Bridgewater could have a lot of upside on the sidelines.
