The Detroit Lions are coming off a disappointing 30-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. The Lions' offense failed to establish much of a rhythm, and the defense was unable to stop Patrick Mahomes. Detroit's defensive struggles were expected entering the game, but due to the injuries they were facing in the secondary.

That said, the Lions are looking to bounce back next Monday night against another high-powered offense in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Although quarterback Baker Mayfield is looking like a top candidate for MVP, Detroit will look out when going against a heavily injured Tampa Bay offense. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles told the media on Monday that running back Bucky Irving and wide receiver Chris Godwin are not in play for Monday night's game. This is big news for a banged-up Lions secondary.

Tampa Bay Set to Be Without Two Key Members on Offense Next Monday

Irving is currently dealing with foot and shoulder issues that he sustained in their Week 4 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The second year back was a key part of the Buccaneers' offense before his injury, racking up 237 rushing yards on 71 carries. In the two games since his injury, veteran Rachaad White has done a nice job filling in, but Irving’s versatility as both a runner and receiver will be missed.

Godwin, on the other hand, has not seen the field much this season. The 29-year-old receiver started the year on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list after dislocating his ankle in Week 7 last year. Despite returning in Week 5, he hasn't been a huge part of their offense, recording just six receptions on 14 targets for 52 yards. Still, his absence will be felt, especially with the other injuries going on in Tampa's receiving corps.

Currently, veteran Mike Evans and rookie sensation Emeka Egbuka are dealing with hamstring injuries. On Monday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Egbuka is expected to miss some time due to the injury. This is another huge break for the Lions' defense.

Nevertheless, even when Egbuka left Sunday's game, Mayfield was still able to elevate the Bucs offense. Thus, Detroit could be in for another shot out in a primetime game. If that's the case, don't expect the Lions to punt much on offense.
