The Detroit Lions came away with the win against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, but it was a costly one. They lost several key contributors to potentially long-term injuries. Of course, the most significant one that has all Lions fans holding their breath for a positive update is Jack Campbell's. While the organization has said that the preliminary prognosis is positive, the updates haven't answered a lot of questions.

In the same play Campbell got hurt, the Lions also lost Jimmy Rolder. The fourth-round pick suffered the injury behind the play and was seen pounding the ground. He left the game with a limp and was ruled out right away.

On Monday, head coach Dan Campbell gave Lions fans the update they were fearing. He said that Rolder's injury was significant, and it almost certainly means he will miss the rest of the season. He added that it could require surgery.

Dan Campbell rules Jimmy Rolder out for the season ahead of Week 9

This is a devastating outcome for the former Michigan standout. Rolder was just finding himself in the NFL after missing a lot of training camp and preseason due to a hamstring injury. He had shown intriguing flashes during the offseason team activities, but suffered the unfortunate injury that slowed his progress early in the season.

The clash against the Vikings was the second game this season in which Rolder saw defensive snaps. He had played a season-high 17 snaps and recorded his first career sack before he left the game. In fact, he was the third-highest-graded defender for Detroit on Pro Football Focus.

Now, Rolder has to wait until next season before he can establish himself as a key member of the Lions' defense.

For the Lions, this leaves them short-handed at linebacker. Malcolm Rodriguez and Trevor Nowaske will likely get more opportunities going forward. On Sunday, it was Rodriguez who made the most of his extended run, making an impact right away.

Assuming that Jack Campbell isn't going to be back anytime soon, Amen Ogbongbemiga and Joe Bachie will get their chances as well.

In his remarks on Monday, HC Campbell said that he wasn't ruling out external help. He said that he was going to get together with GM Brad Holmes and make a decision on potential additions.

All eyes continue to be on Jack Campbell. Let's hope that we hear positive news as the team prepares for their Week 9 outing against the Miami Dolphins. Unfortunately, Rolder, who would have been in line for a bigger role, will not be able to help the Lions.
