The Detroit Lions saw their season come to a premature end last season due to injuries and five games into the 2025 campaign, the Lions are continuing their march to the training room.
Starting cornerbacks D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold, along with left tackle Taylor Decker, have been the biggest concern entering the Week 6 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the Lions might have one more on their hands with wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The Athletic’s Colton Pouncy reported that the star receiver did not practice on Wednesday. This comes after St. Brown appeared to awkwardly land on his shoulder in Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals. While he stayed in the game, that issue could be bleeding into Week 6.
Amon-Ra St. Brown’s Injury Could Be Major Blow for Lions Before Chiefs Showdown
While the Lions have dealt with all sorts of injuries this season, St. Brown would be the’ biggest one to date. The 26-year-old has had 100 catches and at least 1,100 yards in each of the past three seasons and is on his way to another massive campaign with 35 catches for 407 yards and an NFL-high six touchdowns through the first five games.
Any absence for St. Brown would be concerning from a statistical standpoint, but it’s also problematic for the current state of the Lions offense. Jameson Williams has been silent with two or fewer catches in each of the past four games and while Jared Goff’s 75.2% completion rate leads the NFL, he depends on St. Brown for most of his damage through the air.
If there’s any optimism with Wednesday’s news, it’s that St. Brown is tough as nails. St. Brown has missed just two games due to injury during his professional career and once played through Hand, Foot and Mouth disease during a game in the 2023 season that was documented in the Netflix series Receiver.
Jimmy Liao, MD of The Lions Wire speculated that St. Brown could be dealing with a right AC joint sprain and may have had an X-Ray to assess the severity. While it may limit his practice availability, Liao added that it shouldn’t be a long-term issue.
With a primetime matchup against Patrick Mahomes looming, the Lions would love to have all hands on deck. But St. Brown’s status will continue to be a key storyline until the two teams lock up on Sunday night.
