The NFL offseason is one of the most exciting times to be a football fan. It's always a thrill to see players' hard work paying off to the tune of multi-million contracts and the Detroit Lions have thrown their fair share of money around this spring, signing 16 new contracts since the start of free agency, according to Spotrac.
While some of that money was put towards adding new faces to the roster, nine of those contracts were handed out to returning Lions players. Well, Detroit fans can add a 10th name to that list after the organization announced another re-signing on Friday afternoon.
Lions Re-Sign OL Kayode Awosika to End Week 3 of Free Agency
The Lions have announced that they've re-signed veteran offensive lineman Kayode Awosika for the 2025 season. It looked like a return to the Motor City was in doubt when Detroit didn't tender Awosika's exclusive rights free agency qualify offer, however, that clearly didn't stop the two sides from working out a deal.

Assuming that he'll survive training camp, Awosika will be entering his fourth season with the Lions. The former Buffalo Bull began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles, spending two seasons in the City of Brotherly Love before being signed by Detroit shortly after the 2022 season began.
Awosika has often been a backup presence throughout his time with the Lions, playing 597 offensive snaps across 36 games (7 starts). Veteran right guard Kevin Zeitler's offseason exit likely opens the door for more playing time, though, leaving time to tell if Awosika can beat out the likes of Christian Mahogany for a bigger opportunity.
Slated to turn 27 years old in October, Lions fans are excited to see if Awosika still has room for improvement. His 52.5 Pro Football Focus run block grade left much to be desired last season, his mark of 59.4 as a pass protector was a new personal best. Even though he's barely played tackle in the NFL, the Lions could convert him if they believe he has more upside in pass protection — especially since he played OT in college.
There's still time to add more OL talent through the draft, however, the Lions' frontline situation is close to being finalized after Awosika's re-signing. Whether or not the unit is good enough to guide Dan Campbell & Co. to a Super Bowl appearance remains to be seen.
Fortunately, the Lions' outlook is as bright as ever. They currently hold the fifth-best Super Bowl 60 odds (+900) on DraftKings Sportsbook as the NFL offseason rolls on.
