The Detroit Lions are looking to build for the 2025 season. They used this offseason to bolster their roster in preparation for this fall, and have rookie minicamp kicking off. The Lions will have it run from May 9 to May 11, giving them their first glimpse at the players they drafted and signed in undrafted free agency.
It also gives organizations the chance to invite free agents in for a workout, and Detroit certainly took advantage of that. They have 19 tryout players coming in for the weekend, and three of these guys have previously suited up for other teams inside the NFC North.
Detroit has DL Trevis Gipson, CB Duke Shelley, and WR Malik Taylor coming in for minicamp.

Lions Bring in Trevis Gipson, Duke Shelley, and Malik Taylor for Try Out
Gipson was with the Chicago Bears from 2020-2022, where he played in 40 total games (19 starts) for them. In those outings, he had 75 total tackles, 11 TFLs, 21 QB hits, and 11 sacks. After leaving Chicago, Gipson then suited up for the Titans and Seahawks.
Shelley also played for Chicago when he was traded there back in 2019. From 2019-2021, he logged 30 games (6 starts) for the Windy City. In those matchups, Shelley compiled 53 tackles and four pass breakups. He also provided Chicago with a special-teams contributor.
As for Taylor, he was a member of the Green Bay Packers between 2020-2021. In 25 appearances over that span, he had seven grabs for 80 yards and one touchdown.
All three of these guys have played and made 53-man rosters in their careers. They are thrilled to get a chance to latch onto a contender like the Lions and will use this weekend as a launching point to get in the good graces of the coaching staff.
