The Detroit Lions moved to 2-1 on the season after a hard-fought win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. It's never an easy task to go on the road and beat Lamar Jackson's Ravens, but the Lions handled business on both sides of the ball.
Offensive coordinator John Morton and defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard are just three games into their tenures, but they are already looking like fantastic hires for Detroit. On Monday night, the Lions had 426 total yards, 224 rushing yards, and 6.5 yards per play. They had two touchdown drives that went over 90 yards.
Meanwhile, defensively, they recorded seven sacks, 30 pressures, and forced a fumble, per Pro Football Focus. These types of performances showcased that these were the right people for the jobs in Detroit, and that the Motor City has nothing to worry about.
Lions Offensive, Defensive Coordinators Look Like Home Run Hires
There was a lot of chatter around who the Lions would bring in to be their coordinators after Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn left to become head coaches. The Lions' impressive showing against a Super Bowl contender in Baltimore should help put a lot of worries to bed.
Throughout the entire night, the Lions kept generating pressure on Jackson while also limiting his rushing ability (35 rushing yards). They even held Derrick Henry to 50 rushing yards and stripped him in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the Lions scored 10 points in the season opener but have looked like the explosive unit that everyone is accustomed to. After dropping 52 points last week, they poured in 38 points and looked like a more dominant unit when on the field. They can establish the run to keep pressure off quarterback Jared Goff and find ways to get their playmakers involved.
Morton even showcased that he has some of Johnson's creativity. To start the fourth quarter, Amon-Ra St. Brown lined up in the backfield and ran to the right before pitching it to Jahmyr Gibbs, who rushed into the endzone.
The Lions look like they are just getting started and seem to have made the right choices at coordinator on both sides of the ball. This primetime victory just solidified that and has Detroit rolling in the right direction.
They get a chance to continue this stellar play when they host the Cleveland Browns in Week 4.
