The Lions suffered a devastating injury in addition to the shocking loss to the Bills in Week 15, losing CB Carlton Davis for what appears to be the season.

Detroit fell short against the Buffalo Bills in Week 15, suffering a stunning loss in which the team wasn't particularly competitive.

Josh Allen and the Bills decimated the Lions' defense, laying their claim as perhaps the best team in the entire NFL. While Detroit still controls its destiny, this defeat is hard to understand, especially considering the injuries suffered in the midst of it.

Lions Lose CB Carlton Davis to Injury in Bills Loss

If this is a season-ending injury for Davis, it's the latest example of a shocking loss to a key defensive player. Davis has established himself as one of the most important players on the defense, playing 87% of the snaps heading into Sunday.

His loss is a major one, particularly when coupled with Aidan Hutchinson's season-ending injury. Suddenly, Detroit has two key starters out for the year.

We saw the impact of those losses against the Bills. The Lions' defense was crushed, losing 48-42 despite the offense's best efforts. While Jared Goff, Ben Johnson, and Dan Campbell can manufacture points, it means nothing if the defense isn't capable of stopping anyone.

At least on Sunday, Aaron Glenn's unit fell short. There's plenty of time to turn things around. No tea wants to play it's best football in December. Even still, this was a major disappointment when given the opporunity to virtually seal the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Now, the Lions will battle the Eagles down the stretch. Detroit will face the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, and Minnesota Vikings to close the year. If they win all of those games, they'll secure the top seed.

If they don't, things will get dicey quickly. Suddenly, Glenn has to make lemonade out of lemons with a depleted defense desperate to hang on for the stretch run.
