The Detroit Lions' summer schedule has kicked into overdrive now that their disappointing Pro Football Hall of Fame Game performance is in the rearview. Head coach Dan Campbell's team must now focus on the next preseason contest, which will happen on Friday when the Lions visit the Atlanta Falcons for a showdown at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

After only mustering seven points against the Los Angeles Chargers, it's clear that the Lions need to see more from their offense this week. While several playmakers will be looking to give elevated performances against the Falcons, one rookie running back won't be a part of the mix following Detroit's latest roster moves.

Lions Waive Rookie RB Kye Robichaux Before 2nd Preseason Game

The Lions announced on Monday evening that they have waived rookie running back Kye Robichaux with an injury designation. The former Boston College product signed with Detroit as an undrafted free agent out of the 2025 NFL draft, and must now face an uncertain NFL future.

The nature of Robixchaux's ailment is unknown; however, the injury was bad enough to keep him out of multiple practices and last week's clash with the Chargers.

It'll be interesting to see if another team claims Robichaux now that he's on waivers. If not, he'll join the Lions' injured reserve list and could miss the entire upcoming season. There's also a chance that Detroit could reach an injury settlement with the first-year RB, which would see the team pay Robichaux for any medical expenses and game-day paychecks he's projected to miss.

Robichaux's collegiate career was split between Boston College and Western Kentucky, playing two seasons with each program. He converted 477 carries into 2,342 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns during that stretch, all while also tallying 44 catches for 368 receiving yards and another pair of scores.

For now, Robichaux must focus on healing before he can even think about starting his NFL career. Hopefully, the brief Lions RB has a full and quick recovery so that he can pick up from where he left off before the injury bug knocked him out of the preseason.

In the meantime, Detroit fans can view Friday's clash with the Falcons when the preseason showdown airs live on at 7 p.m. ET on Lions TV Network.
