Let's go get him.

Fortunately, it looks like Jack Campbell is making steady progress and will be fine. That said, football might be the last thing going through his mind right now, and even if it were, the fact of the matter is that he won't be back on the field any time soon, maybe ever.

Considering that, the Detroit Lions have to consider all their options. It's brutal, but this is just the way this ruthless business goes, and the show must always go on. Considering that, they might want to scout the trade market for a replacement.

Notably, their Week 9 date with the Miami Dolphins will give them the perfect opportunity to do so. Maybe they can make the most of the opportunity to talk the Dolphins' front office into trading them Jordyn Brooks.

The Detroit Lions should inquire about Jordyn Brooks

Daniel Popper of The Athletic made a case for the Lions to trade for Jordyn Brooks, though he also acknowledged that his contract situation and the Dolphins' fondness for him might make that easier said than done.

“Their (Miami's) rookie class looks promising. The next step would be accruing some more draft capital for 2027,” Popper wrote. “One issue, though, is they do not have many tradable players. Brooks, a reliable veteran off-ball linebacker, is one of the few. He signed a three-year extension in July and has close to $13 million in guaranteed salary in 2027, so any acquiring team would be making a multi-year commitment.”

That said, the Lions will eventually have to address the elephant in the room and have a tough conversation about Campbell's future. We've already seen how a similar injury has kept Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah off the field for two years now.

So, maybe going after a green-dot, bonafide defensive quarterback under contract for the next couple of years might not be the craziest idea. While not the best player in coverage, he's a hard-hitting tackling machine and a force in the running game.

Struggling and young teams are always open for business. So, even though they may not be shopping Brooks, he can probably be had at the right price, and not many teams can get a premium trade return for their linebackers.

The Lions have all the weapons they need on offense, and their defense has been significantly better in recent weeks. As such, it would be a shame to see this turnaround go to waste because they don't act before the November 10 trade deadline.

Signing K.J. Britt won't do much to solve this team's long-term issues; he's not a star by any means, and he'll just give them some depth at the position. Brooks can give them much more than a band-aid and a placeholder, and he can even coexist with Jack Campbell when (if) he's finally cleared to get back on the field.
