The Detroit Lions continue to be hit by untimely injuries at positions where they are already shorthanded.
Unfortunately, that happened again on Saturday afternoon in Detroit's preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins as a fan-favorite rookie was forced to immediately head to the locker room after suffering an injury.
According to Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News, rookie sixth-round pick Ahmed Hassanein did not bother stopping at the medical tent on the sidelines after suffering what was said to be an elbow injury by the broadcast team covering the game. Instead, Hassanein walked directly to the locker room for what we can only assume is further examination by Detroit's medical staff.

Rookie DE Ahmed Hassanein Exits Lions Game to Add to Piling Injuries
This is the second time this week that Hassanein has been impacted one way or another by an injury. During a practice session leading up to the team's preseason matchup with the Dolphins, he suffered what looked like it could have been a scary leg injury, but Detroit dodged that bullet.
Now, the medical staff will have another injury issue to deal with from Hassanein, as this time around, it is his elbow that has been impacted. With the rash of injuries along the front four for the Lions, the franchise cannot afford to continue to have players expected to make their living in the trenches either sidelined or dinged up.
Entering Saturday's exhibition, Hassanein had racked up three tackles over the team's first two preseason games. At the time of his injury on Saturday, the former Boise State Broncos standout had not recorded any statistics.
Hassanein's status moving forward will undoubtedly be a hot topic of conversation once the preseason game concludes and Dan Campbell meets with the media in attendance at Ford Field.
With Alim McNeill, Josh Paschal, Mekhi Wingo, and Pat O'Connor already working their way back from injuries of their own, losing Hassanein as well, this close to Week 1, is not a place the Lions were hoping to be coming out of their third preseason game.
