The NFL Draft will take place this weekend and it presents a major opportunity for the Detroit Lions. The Lions are in a good spot with the 28th overall pick and whoever they choose could play a key role in helping Detroit get to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history.

But while the draft is an exciting time for the front office, this year’s draft presents an opportunity to troll some rivals as the draft is held at Lambeau Field – the home of the Green Bay Packers.

Some Lions fans already took it upon themselves to get a shot in before the draft but their attempt may have backfired as they’ve experienced backlash online. For a team looking to get over the top, their behavior is a brash move and could give Detroit some unintended consequences heading into next season.

Lions Fans Ridiculed For Wearing Super Bowl Rings at NFL Draft

The situation began when photos circulated online of a group of Lions fans attending the draft in Green Bay on Thursday afternoon. While they were decked out in black Lions jerseys with “NFL DRAFT” on the back of them, they also made an interesting choice, wearing giant Super Bowl rings on top of their heads.

Packers fans took to social media to blast the move as the Lions have never won a Super Bowl. The Lions have also never appeared in a Super Bowl as all four of their NFL championships occurred before the first Super Bowl was played in 1967.

So what were these guys thinking? There’s a few theories.

This could have been a jab at the Packers who constantly scream “Four Super Bowls” every time they enter an argument. It also could have been a reference to Packer fans, who wear giant hats of cheese with things like “NFL OWNER” written on them.

It’s also possible it’s a shoutout to Za’Darius Smith, who made his own NFC North division championship ring shortly after the Lions were eliminated by the Washington Commanders in the playoffs. Then again, it does say “SUPER BOWL” on the side of the hats, which throws that idea out the window.

Maybe this is a group of confident fans who are excited about the direction of the franchise. The Lions were a doormat when Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes arrived in 2021 but they’re coming off an NFC Championship Game appearance in 2023 and owned the best record (15-2) in the conference before they were upset in last year’s playoffs.

This means this group may have been calling their shot and they could get the final laugh if the Lions head to the Super Bowl next season.
