The Detroit Lions are looking towards down the road. After getting bounced in the Divisional Round, the outlook has shifted to the 2025 offseason.

Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn both left town for head coach gigs. This roster and coaching staff will be different next season but GM Brad Holmes has made it clear that he wants safety Kerby Joseph to be in the Motor City for the long haul.

In a presser on Thursday, Holmes revealed an extension for Joesph in their plan for the offseason.

Lions News: Brad Holmes Will Explore an Extension for Kerby Joseph

Holmes said that an extension is in the team's plans. The 24-year-old was a 2022 second-round pick and has been a playmaker for this unit. This past season for the Lions, Joesph had 83 total tackles, 12 pass deflections, and an NFL-leading nine interceptions.

According to PFF, he had a 91 overall grade (1st among 170 eligible safeties) and a 91.9 coverage grade (1st among 170 eligible safeties). The Illinois product also had an 83.2 run-defense grade (13th among 170 eligible safeties).

Joseph is heading into the final year of his rookie deal and will become an unrestricted free agent in 2026. He has developed into a ball-hawking playmaker in the middle of the field.

During the 2022 and 2023 seasons, he logged 80-plus tackles, eight-plus pass deflections, and four interceptions.

He's consistently produced for the Lions and will be looking to cash in. Detroit is on the same page, and Holmes made that very clear. Per Overthecap.com, the Lions are set to have $46 million in cap space.

The Lions will have a different defensive coordinator calling the shots in 2025 so having a playmaker like Joseph locked in with an extension would be a great way to begin next season.
