The Detroit Lions made seven selections during the 2025 NFL Draft last weekend but none of the picks were like Boise State defensive end Ahmed Hassanein. The sixth-round pick was a standout edge rusher with the Broncos, racking up 22 of his 24 career sacks in his final two years in Boise and became the first player from Egypt to be selected in the NFL Draft.
There’s a lot more to love about Hassanein, who racked up 115 quarterback pressures over the past two seasons. But it turned out his draft weekend turned out better than anyone realized after making an important decision on draft night.
Ahmed Hassanein Proposes to Girlfriend Moments After He Was Drafted By Lions
KTVB’s Jay Tust documented the moment Hassanein was drafted by the Lions on Saturday afternoon. Shortly after Hassanein was selected, he gathered everyone around and proposed to his girlfriend, Payson.
“I just want to take this opportunity and thank the love of my life. You changed my life,” Hassanein said in the video clip. “You seriously changed my life and you’re the best thing to ever happen to me. I promise I’ll always protect you, always be on your side, and help you fulfill your dreams like you helped fulfill mine.”

With a simple yes, Hassanein had two big life moments in a span of minutes. He fulfilled his dream to become an NFL player and is now engaged to the love of his life.
Hassanein will also have the opportunity to crack the Lions roster, which currently has Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport listed as starters but is wide open along with backups Josh Paschal and Al-Quadin Muhammad.
It adds up to a pretty big day for Hassanein and could be an even bigger one when he puts on the pads later this summer.
