The Detroit Lions won't take the field again until their Week 9 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, but that hasn't kept them from making headlines as we inch closer to the league's Nov. 4 trade deadline.

While no specific players were mentioned as part of her report, Dianna Russini of The Athletic released an update from the league's fall meetings on Saturday. One tidbit of trade information she received about the Lions and the position they are actively looking to add to before the deadline passes. According to Russini's sources, Detroit's front office is locked in on adding a corner to the roster via trade in the coming weeks.

Lions Linked to CB's in Latest Reporting Before Trade Deadline

Given the rash of injuries the defensive backfield has suffered at this point in the year, looking outside the organization to add talent to the secondary is a smart decision to make. Detroit has legitimate hopes of winning the franchise's first Super Bowl. They will need as many healthy and talented bodies as possible in the secondary, as the stakes are only raised with each passing week.

While there is hope that Terrion Arnold will return to the fold following the bye week, his presence alone won't be able to make up for all the lost production the Lions face on that side of the ball. In addition to Arnold, Kerby Joseph, Rock Ya-Sin, Avonte Maddox, Khalil Dorsey, Daniel Thomas, DJ Reed, Dan Jackson, and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. are all either on the IR or carrying some other injury designation.

Needless to say, achieving those goals of a Super Bowl championship will be much easier for Detroit if it can address its obvious need in the secondary ahead of the trade deadline. Even if draft capital is what it takes to get the job done, the Lions are good enough that any of those picks that are shipped out of town will likely land in the bottom third of the draft order. These won't be premier selections that are traded in return for any cornerback.

Fortunately, there should be no shortage of options out there for Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell to potentially pursue. Earlier this week, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowen released a list of the 25 players more likely to be moved by the trade deadline, and six cornerbacks made the list, with the Lions being among the favorites to land Seattle Seahawks CB Riq Woolen.

Whether it is Woolen or another player on their list, Detroit will have options, which should lead to a deal being swung in one way or another.
